About University
To keep pace and to be at par with the developing world in the field of maritime higher studies and research, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University, Bangladesh, the first Maritime University of the country, was established by the BSMRMU, Act No. 47 of 2013. The University started its journey as the 37th public university of the country, the 3rd Maritime University in South Asia and the 12th Maritime University in the world upholding the motto "We Strive for Maritime Excellence".
The university is currently at its formative stage. We gradually plan to develop this university as the highest seat of learning for the students who would aspire to explore the maritime world for the greater interest of the humanity. The university would conduct both graduate and post- graduate courses on various fields, which includes subjects related to Safe Operation, Handling and Management of Ships, Port and Shipping Administration, Maritime Technology, Naval Architecture, Oceanography, Marine Science, Hydrography, Ocean Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Maritime Laws, Maritime Security and Strategic studies, Business Studies, Information and Computer technology, Environmental Science etc. The university will have the dual role of running higher level courses for students, as well as regulating the affiliated institutions for their graduate/post graduate programmes.
University Campus
On the 2nd February 2014, the University's first office was established at BNS Hazi Mohsin, Dhaka Cantonment, Dhaka with active cooperation of the Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral M Farid Habib, NBP, ndc, psc. On the 1st March 2014 the University started its administrative activities by setting up a Liaison Office at 656 Link Road, Mirpur DOHS in Dhaka-1216. With a view to commence its academic activities, on 1st August 2015, the University was shifted to its temporary campus situated at Pallabi, Mirpur-12 in Dhaka. In 2018, the Government of Bangladesh has allocated 106.68 acres of land at Hamidchar (Rangamatia and Bakolia Mouja) under Bandar Thana in the district of Chittagong for the purpose of establishment of a permanent campus of the University.
Admission Essentials
Admission Requirements : B.Sc in Oceanography
The minimum requirements for admission in Bachelor of Science in Oceanography programme are as follows:
- Applicants who have passed HSC or equivalent examination in the current or previous year are eligible to apply.
- Applicants must have passed HSC/equivalent examination and SSC/equivalent examination from science group with minimum GPA 4.00. Applicants of Oceanography must have Biology in HSC
- In HSC/equivalent examination, applicants must have obtained minimum ‘A’ grade in any two subjects from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English and Biology with minimum ‘B+’ grade in rest of the subjects.
- Applicants with GCE must have passed minimum five subjects in O-Level including Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and minimum two subjects in A-Level including Mathematics and Physics. Applicants of Oceanography must also have Biology in A-Level. However, an applicant having more than two ‘C’ grades in O-Level and/or more than one ‘C’ grade in A-Level shall be ineligible for admission.
Admission Requirements : BSc in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering
The minimum requirements for admission in Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering (NAOE) programme are as follows:
- Applicants who have passed HSC or equivalent examination in the current or previous year are eligible to apply.
- Applicants must have passed HSC/equivalent examination and SSC/equivalent examination from science group with minimum GPA 4.00.
- In HSC/equivalent examination, applicants must have obtained minimum ‘A’ grade in any two subjects from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English with minimum ‘B’ grade in rest of the subjects.
- Applicants with GCE must have passed minimum five subjects in O-Level including Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and minimum two subjects in A-Level including Mathematics and Physics. However, an applicant having more than two ‘C’ grades in O-Level and/or more than one ‘C’ grade in A-Level shall be ineligible for admission.
Admission Requirements : LLB (Hons) in Maritime Law
Eligibility for admission in LLB ( Honours) in Maritime Law programme is as follows:
- Applicants who have passed HSC or equivalent examination in the current or previous year are eligible to apply.
- Applicants must have passed HSC/equivalent examination and SSC/equivalent examination with minimum GPA 3.5.
- For IGCSE/O Level and IAL/GCE A Level or Equivalent Exam Applicants:
- Students who have passed IGCSE/O level exam in at least 5 subjects and IAL/GCE A level exam in at least 2 subjects are eligible to apply. Out of the 7 subjects in IGCSE/O Level and IAL/GCE A level candidates should get minimum 4 B grades and 3 C grades. No D grade will accepted.
- Candidates from O level and A level or from all other boards, outside the country have to obtain ‘Equivalence Certificate’ from appropriate authority
Admission Requirements : BBA in Port Management & Logistics
Eligibility for admission in BBA in Port Management & Logistics programme is as follows:
- Applicants who have passed HSC or equivalent examination in the current or previous year are eligible to apply.
- Applicants must have passed HSC/equivalent examination and SSC/equivalent examination from any group with total GPA 7.5 (HSC and SSC) but not less than 3.5 in any examination.
- Applicants with GCE must have passed minimum five subjects in O-Level including Mathematics and minimum two subjects in A-Level. However, an applicant having more than two ‘C’ grades in O-Level and/or more than one ‘C’ grade in A-Level will be ineligible for admission.
Admission Requirements : B.Sc (Hons) in Marine Fisheries
To be eligible for admission in the programme, a candidate must pass SSC/ Dakhil and HSC/Alim examinations or its equivalent in Science discipline. The minimum requirements for admission in this programme are as follows:
- Applicants who have passed HSC or equivalent examination in the current year or one year before the notification for admission are eligible to apply.
- Applicants must have passed SSC/equivalent examination and HSC/ equivalent examination from Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education/ Madrasa Education Board/ Technical Education Board in Science group with minimum GPA 4.00 in a 5-point scale. Applicants must have Biology in HSC.
- In HSC/Alim/equivalent examination the applicant must have obtained minimum “A” grade in any two (02) subjects from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with minimum “B+” (B plus) grade in rest of the Courses.
- Applicants with GCE must have passed minimum five subjects in O level including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and at least two subjects in A level including Physics and Mathematics. Applicants must also have Biology v in A level. However, an applicant having more than two ‘C’ grades in O level and/or more than one ‘C’ grade in A level shall not be eligible for admission.
- Foreign applicants shall apply through their respective embassy. Educational qualifications are same as applicable for Bangladeshi students.
