The Private University Act passed by the Parliament in 1992 and its amendment passed in 1998 empowered the Government and the University Grants Commission (UGC) for the establishment of Private Universities throughout the country.
They established the Bangladesh Islami University (BIU), a private university with the proper approval from the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Since its inception in 2006, the university has been working excellently and presently, it has become a modern, dynamic and innovative institution providing standard and high quality knowledge in every branch of education. The present campus of the University is located at Plot# B-51, Avenue# 3, Green Model Town, Manda, Mugda, Dhaka-1214. The university imparts quality higher education to produce professional graduates capable of developing knowledge, attain skill and be able to lead the nation. Since its inception in 2005, the university has been working efficiently and presently it has become a modern, dynamic and innovative institution providing high quality education in every sphere of knowledge. As such BIU strives to produce modern citizens and professional equipped with self confidence, versatility of skills and with ethical standards. Bangladesh Islami University is flourishing rapidly having thousands of its students. We have the credibility of holding 1st convocation of BIU on 14 February, 2018.
VISION
The University authority firmly aims at disseminating holistic and modern education through integrated learning and state-of-the-art training method. The authority strives to produce modern citizens and professionals equipped with self-confidence, versatility of skills and with ethical standards to meet the challenges of the contemporary legal and corporate world and to sow the seeds of economic, spiritual and cultural growth.
MISSION
The mission of BIU is to impart knowledge for interweaving the two streams of education of our country-religious and modern, in the light of Islam. The Supreme reality, Allah the Almighty, who wants spiritual consciousness, has given freedom to human intellect and imagination. There are four sources of knowledge that are used to explore the basic concepts of a human being and his/her relationship with Allah and the rest of the universe.
These sources are: > Revelation > Intelligence > Reason and >Consciousness. This philosophy serves as the basis of designing curriculum for BIU and helps to make it a “Centre of Excellence” by setting a new standard for the higher education in Bangladesh.
GOAL
The Goals of BIU are as follows:
To inculcate the young men and women with the universal principles of Towhid (the Unity of Allah); and
To make practical steps for the moral, intellectual, economic, social, scientific and technological development in accordance with the principles of Islam and to take appropriate steps in finding out practical solutions of the problems of the new millennium.
GOVERNANCE
The governance of the university is run by several bodies such as: (a) the Board of Trustees (b) the Syndicate (c) the Academic Council (d) the Finance Committee, (e) the Selection Committee (f) Disciplinary Committee and some other committees of the university. The Honorable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh is the Chancellor of the University. The Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer, Registrar, Deans of faculties and Chairmen of the departments are the executives and academics. The Academic Council headed by the Vice-Chancellor includes the Registrar and all Deans, Chairmen of the departments and nominated professors of the university.

PREREQUISITES FOR ADMISSION:
For BBA, BA (Hons) and LLB (Hons) programs, an applicant should have at least second division both in SSC & HSC Exams or minimum GPA 2.50 in both the exams or equivalent exams (CGPA 5.00). But if any student gets at least 2.00 in any exam, he/she has to get total GPA at least 6.00 in both the exams.
An ‘O’ level student must have at least five subjects in ‘O’ level exam and an ‘A’ level student must have at least two subjects in ‘A’ level exam. Out of at least seven subjects of those ‘O’ level and ‘A’ level exams, the student must have B grade or GPA 4.0 in the exam, of four subjects and C grade or GPA 3.5 in remaining three subjects.
For the wards of freedom fighters a student must have total GPA 5.0 in SSC and HSC or equivalent public exams.
For MBA (Regular) program, a student should have at least a Bachelor’s degree. Experience may be taken as a plus point for admission.
For LL.M (Final) Program, a student should have at least LL.B (Hons) or must pass in LL.M (Preliminary) exam.
For LL.M (preliminary) Program, a student should have at least a degree LL.B (pass) from any recognized University.
For MA in Islamic Studies & in English, a student should have at least a Bachelor degree.
Admission is conducted by an Admission Committee formed by the Academic Council.
The candidates seeking admission to the above programs will have to sit for an admission test and obtain an acceptable score in that test. But the candidates who have scored at least 1100 in SAT, 450 in GMAT and 550 in TOEFL will be admitted directly to the BBA, LL.B (Hons) and BA (Hons) programs.

How to Apply:
Application Form is available at the Admission Office of the university and may be collected on payment of Tk. 300/-.
To get an Application Form by mail, one may write to the Office of the Registrar along with a Bank Draft/Pay Order of Tk. 300/- in favour of Bangladesh Islami University with a self-addressed envelope bearing postage stamp of Tk.12.
The completed Application Form should be submitted to the Admission Office with the following documents:
Main or attested copies of all the academic certificates / mark sheets/transcripts
Three copies of passport-size coloured photographs
A certificate for break of study in case of irregular students
Official transcripts for transferred students.
The university has a research centre and it plans to publish journal namely ‘Bangladesh Islami University Journal and other periodicals. It is mentionable here that by this time having ISSN No. 1995-4182 from Paris center, four volumes of the journal have been published.
