Eden Women's College is the foundation of the educated, awake, conscious, independent thinking progressive women's society that has developed in this country in the last one century.
Eden Women's College is a renowned ancient and traditional educational institution. The students of Eden Women's College have direct, protestant and courageous role in the 2018 Language Movement, the People's Uprising of 1969 and the Great Liberation War of 1971. Even today, the students of Eden Women's College have a proud presence in all fields of governance, administration, politics, education, research, science-engineering-dominion-technology, police and work.
Eden Mahila College, a large and unique educational institution for women, has a history of 150 years. A small educational institution was established in 1873 with a small number of students from the feminist thought of the Sangha called 'Shubswadhini Seva' which is manifested in great glory today. Education philanthropist Miss Mary Carpenter GB visited this home school and presented a report in favor of setting up another school. The girl's school founded by the representative of Brahmo Samaj Shri Navakanta Anand Mohan Das came together under the name of Dhaka Female School. In 1878 the school was renamed Eden Girls' School after the then Governor Sir Ashley Eden. In September 1878, 'Eden Girls School' became a government institution. Eden School was the first government school of that time. In 1896-97, its number of students was 130. According to the report of 1907-1912, Eden School was called Excellente High School in Province of Easter Bengal and Assam Gi. At that time the school activities were conducted in a house in Lakshibazar. In 1897, when the house was damaged by the Vayabah earthquake, it was first shifted to the house of lawyer Shri Ishwarchandra and later to the Portuguese Kuthi house at Sadarghat. At this time the school was upgraded to the Intermediate category and named Eden Girls High School and Intermediate College. From the recollections of the students of 1939-40, it is known that the college building was a three-storey building in the middle of a spacious garden. With playground and assembly hall. In 1945 the school was again shifted to its present premises on Abdul Gani Road. The Secretariat is now called Eden Building. In 1947, the school moved to Curzon Hall and shortly thereafter Kamrunnesa School was located at Tikatuli.
In 1948, the college branch of Eden School and College and the college branch of Kamrunnessa School and College were joined as Eden Girls College at No. 7 Bakshibazar. Finally, in 1962, this institution got a permanent address on 18 acres of land in Azimpur.
The top female personalities of the country have served as the president of this college at various levels. They have brought the school to the peak of reputation with their knowledge, wisdom and foresight. Renowned teachers have taught here. Their contribution is incredible. Over 150 years, Eden Women's College has seen tremendous change. Currently more than 24 thousand students are studying in 23 departments. The number of teachers is 252, administrative building and academic building 6, 6 student residences including 1 multi-storey. Technology has been applied in administrative work and in the classroom. Effective measures have been taken to protect the physical and mental health of students. There are cultural centers Chhayabithi, BNCC, Bandhan etc. Voluntary organizations are always active.
