23 July 2010- Hon'ble Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina visited Shyamnagar area of Cyclone Aila devastated Satkhira district and promised to establish a medical college in Satkhira district. As a result of this, the foundation stone was laid on 20th July 2012. The construction work started thereafter.
Academic activities of Satkhira Medical College started in a rented house in Satkhira town with 52 students in academic year 2011-12.
Later in September 2013 administrative, academic and students’ accommodation was arranged in 6 buildings of Satkhira Medical College Hospital in Bakal, Satkhira.
On 04 April 2015, the then Minister of Health and Family Welfare late Mr. Md. Nasim announced the auspicious opening of Satkhira Medical College Hospital.
Since January 2018, Satkhira Medical College has been functioning in its own campus.
Aims and objectives
Aims: Since 2011, Satkhira Medical College has been imparting medical education with the aim of producing doctors of international standard with the principle of "Education for Service".
Objectives: Those students who enter the medical college through a very hard competitive examination, our objective is to develop them as smart doctors to by providing theoretical and practical medical knowledge as much as possible. Besides to provide international quality medical services to the people of Satkhira is also our objective.

Admission Process
Eligibility Criteria for Admission Test
1. A candidate must be citizen of Bangladesh
2. Students who have passed the SSC/ Equivalent and HSC/ Equivalent (with physics, Chemistry, Biology)
3. Total GPA 9.0 in SSC and HSC (not <3.5 in each exam)
4. For hill districts and tribal candidates-8.0 in SSC and HSC (not <3.0 in each exam)
5. Must have GPA 3.5 in Biology in SSC & HSC exam
6. Total marks =300, Written test (MCQ) 100 (Physics 20, Chemistry 25, Biology 30, English 15, History of Bangladesh and Liberation War 10), 200 from SSC & HSC results (15 times of SSC's GPA and 25 times of HSC's GPA)
8. For every wrong answer 0.25 will be deducted
7. Candidates scoring less than 40 marks in the written examination will be considered as failed
8. Only the merit list of successful candidates will be published.
Selection Policy
1. Merit Quota 80% and District Quota 20%
2. Students will be admitted in the college by merit and their choice
3. Students who passed HSC under Dhaka Board may apply through any Govt. Medical Colleges
4. Students who passed HSC under boards other than Dhaka can not apply through Govt. Medical Colleges of Dhaka city
5. Incomplete application or application with false information (whenever detected) will be rejected
After selection, the selected candidates need the following documents for admission-
1. Admit card of admission test
2. Result of admission test
3. SSC or equivalent certificate (original)
4. Academic Transcript of SSC
5. HSC or equivalent certificate (original) or testimonial (attested)
6. Academic Transcript of HSC
7. Photocopy (attested) of the certificate of city corporation/ Pourasava mayor or Chairman of Union Parishod for district quota
8. 4 copies of passport size photo are (attested)
9. Tribal and non-tribal candidates of Hill districts and the tribal of other districts must submit necessary supporting documents
10. Children of Freedom Fighters must submit necessary supporting documents
Health check-up
Before admission, every candidate must satisfy the medical board of the Medical College.
