Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital (ShSMCH) is one of the important tertiary level Hospital in Bangladesh. It is Located in the North-Western part of Dhaka, Very adjacent to National Parliament and Gonobhabon, having a unique architectural heritages and excellent atmospheric environment. It started is Journey in 1963 as Ayub General Hospital. After liberation war Father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman renamed it as 75 bedded Shaheed Suhrawardy General Hospital for the treatment of injured Bir-Freedom fighter. At that time, National Institute of Ophthalmology (NIO), National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) were along with it, gradually above institutions started their journeys individually and it was converted as Medical College Hospital on 2009. Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated academic activities of Medical College as Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College & Hospital (ShSMCH) as 850 bedded hospital and started its full activities Due to over loaded of patient and to extend its services, Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated 6th storied Vertical extension of Hospital Building on 2018 After completion of construction works it started as 1350 bedded hospital 2022. Now it is one of the main public treatment hospital in Dhaka city and adjacent districts. There are about 28 departments, 46 units, 24 hrs One Stop Emergency & Casualty (OSEC) services, 24/7 Indoor services, Outdoor services, ICU services, Laboratory services, almost all modern investigation facilities, almost all general, Special and sub special operations. Everyday large number of patients from different corners of Bangladesh come here for special management, Hospital authority provide all the medicines, and MSR according to needs of patients. Keeping with hospital services academic environments of this institute is very good. Every year about 190 MBBS students & 50 BDS students admitted here. Post Graduate courses of different subjects also available here. In Hospitals campus there is a BSC Nursing College, One Nuclear Medicine centre (will be started soon), Large playground for students. Two very nice hospitals gardens, adjacent environment of Gonobhabon & National Parliament is very charming. All the Doctors, Nurses, and others Staffs are very cordial about Patient’s management. It is our commitment to make the hospital as a center of excellence. There are indoor, outdoor & emergency facilities here. They provide very good services. Almost every doctors and stuffs are well mannered here. As it is a government hospital, it costs almost free. But the problem is getting appointment. Lots of patient gather here every day. They have enough number of doctors, nurses and other stuffs. There are two hostel for medical students behind the hospital building and two for dental students. The full hospital campus is well decorated.
