Rabindra University
Rabindra University is the 40th public university in Bangladesh. The university is named after Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore. The university is located in Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj district, which is the memorial of Kabiguru. Rabindra University was established with the aim of keeping pace with the advancing world in various fields of higher education, meeting the national needs through education and research and keeping the immortal creation of the universal poet Rabindranath Tagore, the creator of the national anthem of Bangladesh, forever in the memory of the people of this country. The Honorable Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the university on May 8, 2015. Next year i.e. on July 26, 2016, the 'Rabindra University, Bangladesh Act 2016' was passed by the Great National Parliament. In 2018, academic activities of the university started with 105 students in three departments of two faculties in the academic year 2017-2018.
Rabindra University currently has five departments under four faculties. The sections are- a. Faculty of Arts: 1. Bengal, b. Faculty of Social Sciences: 2. Sociology; 3. economics; c. Faculty of Business Education: 4. management; and d. Faculty of Music and Dance: 5. music The number of degrees awarded is eight- 1. BA (Hons), 2. BSS (Honours), 3. BBA, 4. Bmuse, 5. MA, 6. MSS, 7. MBA and 8. mmuse A decision has been taken to introduce M.Phil and Ph.D degrees under various faculties of the University.
The total number of students of Rabindra University is 807. Bengali, Sociology, Economics, Management and Music departments are being studied by students of various academic years at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The number of teachers, officers and employees of the university is 203 people.
The academic activities of the university and the central library are being managed by setting up temporary campuses in the buildings of three higher education institutions of Shahjadpur upazila. The process of acquisition and construction of the proposed permanent campus of Rabindra University on 236 acres of Rabindranath Tagore's zamindari, surrounded by natural beauty at the mouth of three rivers, near Shahjadpur Upazila town of Sirajganj district, is in progress.
Although young in age, Rabindra University is moving forward at the expected speed by overcoming various challenges. Quality education and research are the core ideals of Rabindra University. According to WebMetrics International Ranking of 2023, Rabindra University has achieved the second position among the new universities of Bangladesh. The University has adopted its overall plan keeping in mind the goal of creating self-respecting and skilled manpower in the service of the country and people through intensive research and practice to deal with the changing global situation, incorporating Rabindranath Tagore's philosophy of education, the spirit of human liberation and the philosophical philosophy of this country. The implementation of this plan will play an effective role in realizing the dream of the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, to build Sonar Bangla.
